Point Lepreau not impacted by tropical storm Irene
August 29, 2011
Downgraded to tropical storm by the time it reached Eastern Canada on Sunday, Irene had no impact on the New Brunswick Point Lepreau nuclear power plant.
As per usual procedure when extreme weather has been forecast, the plant’s operator implemented the facility’s severe weather emergency procedure.
The CNSC’s site staff closely monitored preparations over the weekend and was fully satisfied by precautions taken at the facility, which had already been shut down for a period of time because it is undergoing refurbishment.
The U.S. NRC provided an update over the weekend. All U.S. facilities safely weathered the hurricane.
