Under the Nuclear Safety and Control Act and associated regulations, various levels of regulatory action can be taken by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) to protect the health, safety and security of Canadians and the environment.
On August 23, 2011, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) confirmed that Advance Testing Ltd. has complied with all the terms and conditions of the order issued to this Company on August 10, 2011. The corrective measures implemented by Advance Testing Ltd. were reviewed and found satisfactory by CNSC staff.
On August 12, 2011, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) announced that it issued an order to Advance Testing Ltd.
Advance Testing Ltd. is a Canadian consulting firm, based in Surrey, British Columbia, that provides geotechnical, environmental and material engineering services. Advance Testing Ltd. holds a licence that authorizes the possession, transfer, use and storage of portable nuclear gauge devices.
The order, issued on August 10, 2011, requires the company to place all nuclear substances/devices into secure storage until it can demonstrate, to the CNSC’s satisfaction, that a radiation protection program has been fully implemented, that management control over work practices has been established, and that all items of non-compliance observed during the inspection have been addressed.
The order was issued as a result of observations made during compliance inspections that took place on August 9, 2011. These inspections identified that there is no effective implementation of the radiation safety training program in the field.
Observations included lack of adherence to the company’s radiation protection program and inadequate provisions made for the transport of radioactive material.
