The Molecule Matching Game is one of several games and puzzles in the CNSC’s Educational Resources aimed at students aged 12–13. The aim of the game is to match molecule illustrations with their names.
In the interactive version of this game, illustrations represent the molecules with their unique chemical elements.
The first molecule appears on the left, with a word list in no special order on the right. A small image of Inspector Geiger, the cartoon character that guides students through the educational resources pages, appears at the top of the screen to give instructions.
To play the game, the player drags the molecule to a word. When the answer is correct, a green checkmark appears, the molecule image jumps to the answer, and the next molecule appears. The player selects an answer for it from the remaining choices and continues in the same way for the rest of the questions.
If the answer is wrong, a red X is displayed, along with the text “Whoops! That’s not it. Try again…”
When the player has figured out all the answers, a picture shows a picture shows the boy and girl saying: “Congratulations!”
The final image shows two thumbs up as a sign of victory to let the player know that they are well on their way to becoming a junior nuclear safety representative. The time it took, in minutes and seconds, to solve all the words also appears. Each student can type in their name and print the results to hand in to the teacher.
